World of Noveau

Overview

Noveau is a planet with a vast array of biomes. Novae live in walled cities, both to keep the wilderness out and the novae in. Landscapes have grown warped from crystal energy, and its influence has spread far and wide.

Fauna

Ignis

Ignis

Ignis are tiger-sized beasts of prey. They live solo until they find a mate, in which they mate for life. Ignis live on and near rocky outcrops. They are highly aggressive and territorial, often patrolling for intruders which they are easily able to defeat and drag back to their nest to eat. They whip their serrated tail around violently when they are defending their territory, often paired with aggressive chuffing. What looks like ears are simply unmoving spikes of cartilage, they have ear holes just below them.

Their skin is akin to crocodile leather, but without any large scales.

They live near ateths, which are the only creatures that can actually match ignis power. They frequently fight over territory, almost always resulting in a draw.

Ateth

Ateth

Ateths are large, prairie-dwelling scavengers. They are also opportunistic and ambush hunters. Four eyes allow ateths to have excellent depth perception. Their tabby-like pattern blends in with prairie plant life and keeps them camouflaged. They have webbing connecting their forelegs to the base of their tails, allowing for cooling in the prairie heat. Large, bony crowns atop their heads serve ateths in combat, used for headbutting in mating or territorial disputes.

Voltair

Voltair

Voltair are mostly solitary creatures. While they may be found in packs, it is rare. Voltair are rather short, only about 2 ft/60 cm tall at the shoulder. They have large, triangular dorsal spines that glow. Voltair can charge themselves upon surrounding radiation, allowing themselves to emit an electromagnetic pulse, which they use to scare away predators and attract other voltair. This also disables any nearby technology, and made studies of voltair rather difficult.

Quaan

Quaan

Quaan are large, cumbersome creatures. They have a big appetite, and will eat almost any living creature that they see. Injured or otherwise incapacitated animals are quaans' primary source of food. They swallow their prey whole. Digestion of a large meal takes a couple days, after which they are on the prowl for more.

Gauntleg

Gauntleg

Gauntlegs are pale, thin-skinned omnivores with absolutely no standards for what they eat. They are blind and live in dark, usually damp places. To compensate, they have a stellar sense of smell and whiskers covering their body that sense the slightest movements and air drafts. Their hearing is a little poor. At shoulder level, gauntlegs are 3 ft/91 cm tall. They live in colonies and are easily startled. Their insatiable urge to eat stems from commonly living where no prey animals other than insects live. Due to this, they are on an almost constant search for food.
